Why Choose Dr. David H. McCord?

Compassionate Patient Care

Dr. David H. McCord is a board-certified Orthopedic Physician and Spine Surgeon who has practiced as an Orthopaedic Spine and Back Specialist in Nashville, Tennessee for over twenty years.  Dr. McCord is a true pioneer in the modern treatment of neck and back pain with his primary focus on the treatment of spine abnormalities, disc degeneration, and previous failed back surgeries. Fellowship trained to treat conditions of the neck and back, Dr. McCord limits his practice to conditions of the spine. Dr.McCord's progressive insight into back and neck treatments for over two decades has improved the lives of countless patients, and he has many times successfully treated patients who had previous unsuccessful surgical interventions elsewhere.

Open Upright MRI

Dr. McCord quickly recognized Upright MRI technology could expand diagnostic capabilities for spine patients experiencing back and neck pain. This revolutionary new MRI offered imaging for patients in weight-bearing positions, previously impossible to obtain. Dr. McCord brought this technology to Tennessee in 2008, seeking to advance positive outcomes for patients with spine pain. The Next Generation Upright MRI is now owned and operated by Premier Radiology.

The Upright MRI is open which minimizes claustrophobia, and it can scan larger patients who cannot fit in traditional MRIs. For the most common scans, patients simply walk in, sit down and watch TV.

Board Certified Spine Surgeon

Dr. David McCord is a native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky where he graduated as Valedictorian.  He completed his undergraduate training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee summa cum laude before attending medical school at Cornell University in New York City.  He did a surgical internship and orthopaedic residency at Duke University, finishing as Chief Resident his last year.  Dr. McCord continued his training in Baltimore, Maryland with world-renowned spine surgeon, Dr. Paul McAfee, formally of Johns Hopkins University.  Dr. McCord is board certified and has practiced as a Spine Specialist and Spine Surgeon in Nashville, Tennessee for over twenty years with his care limited to treatments of the spine for back and neck pain.

Complete Review of Every Patient

Dr. McCord believes successful patients tend to be well-informed and secure with the decisions they make regarding their healthcare. His spine, neck and back pain practice works to educate patients on their specific anatomical problems, the natural course of the issues if left untreated, and the treatment choices including conservative care. If surgery is an option, the chance of a good outcome is discussed along with associated risks of an unexpected outcome. By providing this information patients are empowered with their decision-making process. Spine, back and neck surgery is almost always an elective procedure and ultimately must be the patients' choice.
